Lincoln City 1 v Doncaster Rovers 0 - FLYA

Saturday 19th January 2015
Football League Youth Alliance (NE)

Lincoln City (0) 1
Leon Loftus 73
Doncaster Rovers (0) 0
Mansfield Town's Under 18's weren't in league action today, due to them having played in the FA Youth Cup last night.
In their absence, the Stags have dropped to third place (with a game in hand), while both Scunthorpe United who beat York City 2-0 and Lincoln City who recorded their eighth win in a row today, leapfrogged John Dempster's side in the FLYA (North East) league table.
Lincoln City's next home game (at Ashby Avenue) is against Mansfield Town, on Saturday 9th January, kick off 11AM.

An entertaining, enjoyable and closely contested game between Lincoln City and Doncaster Rovers unfolded at Lincoln United's Ashby Avenue ground, where two sides who were both competitively strong in the middle of the park, were only separated by a solitary goal, scored when Callum Stewart drilled a low free kick into the visitors six yard box from out on the right wing and Leon Loftus was on hand to nudge the ball into the net from close range, amid the ensuing goalmouth scramble.
Rovers could've gone to the top of the table themselves today, if Scunthorpe failed to win against York and they made the Imps work hard for the three points today.
But in the end, the young Imps had enough in their tank to see them across the finishing line.
I'm really looking forward to my next visit to the City of Lincoln in January now, it'll be a tough test for the young Stags.
Seeing as it's the time of year for goodwill to all men, I'll spare you the arduous task of having to decipher the notes I took throughout the game, that sort of statistical jargon has no place on a blog that caters for a family audience anyway.
Suffice to say, these are two of the best teams in this league and Lincoln are flying at the moment.
