Gainsborough Trinity 1 v Boston United 3 - Lincs FA U21 League

Tuesday 16th February 2016
Lincolnshire FA U21 Development League
at the Martin & Co. Arena, the Northolme
Gainsborough Trinity (1) 1
Jake Park
Boston United (2) 3
Malachi Lavelle-Moore, Ioan Evans, Cameron Johnson
A windswept and ultimately wet night, impacted on the attendance for this Under 21, Lincolnshire derby.
The 55 miles separating the two grounds would push back the boundaries of calling this a local derby somewhat, although the first teams of these respective clubs are definitely 'rivals' when they come together for Vanarama National League North matches.
Both teams fielded strong line ups, including players who have turned out for their first teams respectively, so a fairly even contest was envisaged, by the 30 or so die-hards, parents and sad anoraks who had made the effort to turn out.
Boston had the better of the first half and had it not been for several chances going begging as they attacked into the wind, they could have been further ahead by the break, but had to settle for a brace of goals from Malachi Lavelle-Moore, Ioan Evans, while Trinity who didn't seem to be getting to grips as well as their visitors, pulled a goal back shortly before half time when Jake Park timed his run well to get on the end of a free kick from out on the right flank and he powered a header just inside the left hand upright.
It was a far more evenly contested game after the break, but the Pilgrims defended well as a unit as Trinity tried battling their way back into the game.
Two long range efforts from Boston were more of a danger to passing motorists than the Trinity goal, as they orbited over the stand behind the goal, via a wind assisted flight path, but Cameron Johnson restored the visitors two goal cushion with a free kick from the edge of the area that had the Holy Blues keeper clutching at fresh air as it bulged the top corner of the goal net. Johnson has now scored ten goals for Boston this season.
It was far too cold for making copious amounts of notes tonight, so that is all you are getting ;-p
FT: Gainsborough Trinity 1 v Boston United 3
All things considered, a fair result on the balance of play.
