Retford Town 2 v East Drayton 2 - Lincoln Football League

Tuesday 7th May 2013
at the Jones & Co. Solicitors Stadium/Cannon Park, Retford
Lincoln Football League
Retford Town (1) 2
Dan Law x 2 (1 pen)
East Drayton (1) 2
Chris Bennett OG, Adam Holdsworth
East Drayton had won seven and lost eight games this season, tonight they registered their only draw of the campaign.
Two below full strength sides, played out a game that was all about 100% effort and application ... and the end result was a good reflection of the game as a whole.
Retford Town beat Cherry Willingham 4-1, at Lincoln Moorlands ground, in the Richardson Trophy final last might, so there would've been some tired legs out on that Cannon Park pitch tonight.
Goal! One nil to Retford Town
Town took the lead through a Dan Law penalty after ten minutes but the visitors were on level terms, when a harmless looking back pass, bobbled unkindly in front of Retford's keeper, causing him to air kick instead of clearing the ball upfield as he'd intended.
The home side's regular keeper Jason Holberry, was running the line in the first half, but he wasn't involved otherwise tonight. Chris Bennett was credited with the own goal.
HT 1-1
Dan Law restored Retford's lead after the break and though East Drayton piled forward in search of an equaliser, it did look as though Town were going to hang on and claim the three points.
However, Adam Holdsworth, who several people will have recognised tonight, because he also plays for another team Cannon Park based football team, seized on the opportunity to crash the ball home from all of 25 yards out and netted via a bounce on the firm pitch inside the six yard box, to claim a point for the visitors.
A fair result in the end I reckon.
